Need advice on my next XBOX console purchase

So I’m a lifelong gamer but very limited in terms of my console knowledge. For context, I now play pretty sparingly (about 1-3 times a week) so a first-gen XBOX one has held up well. Until it hasn’t. Slow speed, weak storage, and no longer compatible with some of the more interesting games or features I’m looking for now. But given how much I play, I’ve held off on purchasing a new console. I’m looking for another Xbox console that’s nothing fancy (I’ve been looking into the series S) but don’t want to get roped into buying another console that will be antiquated here in a few years. Also given my relatively low usage, I’d like to be as economical as possible in my selection ($250USD or under). Any advice is greatly appreciate!
