racially diverse
Since the start of COVID-19, I’ve participated in a daily healing circle via Zoom with a group of people whom I respect dearly. The group is racially diverse, including friends who are white, black, Asian, and Hispanic. On Saturday, the two black members of the group weren’t present. Their absence was palpable. Trying to find some hope amid the chaos, we decided to watch Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. I was brought to tears analyzing my own white privilege and wondering how black Americans can have a dream when they can’t breathe. Where do we go from here? The first step is talking, learning about people’s stories, and understanding experiences that are different from our own.
