What’s the future of CS look like?

I don’t think this is another doomer post. I’m genuinely curious as to what working in tech looks like right now.

I don’t think AI will take anyone’s job, at least not now. Maybe in 10 or 20 years. Who knows. I imagine outsourcing and offshoring/nearshoring is more of a threat to jobs in the US than AI.

The market seems to be not great for new grads and juniors. I’m a new grad who’s very highly leaning into going for a nursing degree.

Anyway, I’m wondering what it looks like to work right now in terms of hours, amount of work, pay and all that in tech. I’ve read on here that salaries are going down and hours are going up. I don’t imagine SWE going away anytime soon but this whole boot camp for 3 months and get a six figure job seems to be gone for sure.

So what’s working in tech like right now? Is the ever looming fear of layoffs constant? Are there people here who have never been laid off?
