Advice for a beginner doing square drills

Im a newbie to diamond painting, but I fell in love with Botanic Witch from DAC. I’ve only done a few tiny micro paintings before this one. It felt like I went from a 1 to a 100.

Finishing this small square was super stressful. It took me about 3 hours just to get it done. The lines weren’t coming out straight, and I felt like I didn’t have enough space for each drill. Plus, I found that wax was way easier to use than putty.

Despite the difficulty, I still love diamond painting and plan to keep going. But as a beginner, I’m realizing that I might need some help getting straighter lines so I have enough space for each. I did buy the pens that can hold 6-10 drills, but they were a bit intimidating to use.

Any tips or tricks you can recommend to help me improve my diamond painting skills?
