Players who have been playing a while but still don't understand the game very well, why aren't you using AI?

So I made a thread yesterday questioning why people were so accepting of players who had long since ceased being new to the game but still hadn't learned basic aspects of the game. And amongst other things, I got a pretty comprehensive set of answers from those kinds of players themselves as to why when their turn came around they never acquired the basic mastery that would be expected in any other game after playing it for months, including:

  • I struggle to remember which dice to roll for basic abilities like Divine Smite, even after months of playing.

  • Some players in my group forget their rules or abilities week to week, especially when playing online.

  • The Player’s Handbook is overwhelming—it’s 380 pages, and even experienced players don’t remember everything.

  • The rules don’t always make sense to me, and I sometimes feel embarrassed to ask questions about things I think I should already know.

  • I play for fun and to spend time with my friends, but not everyone wants to be a rules expert or tactical genius.

  • One friend of mine excels at roleplaying but struggled for years with mechanics until a video game helped her understand them better. I’ve seen players confused by seemingly simple mechanics, like Extra Attack or rolling HP when leveling up.

  • For me, it’s easier to ask questions than search through the rulebooks during a session, even if it slows the game down.

  • I take notes, commit to my games, and even DM, but I still forget spells, dice rolls, and core mechanics—it’s just too much to remember.

Now, I get it. Those are all valid reasons, and you can't always/don't want to always be asking this stuff aloud and interrupting things, and a lot of players feel bad when it's been five minutes of other people's turns and it gets to yours and you still can't remember how what you want to do works.

But literally every single example people gave could be fixed by just giving chatgpt or something basic information about your character then asking it to answer you while you wait for your turn to come up. You want to know how much hp you get levelling up? Tell the robot your information and you'll get a precise answer and an explanation of why. You don't remember how extra attack and divine smite work? Tell it you're a level whatever paladin attacking with whichever weapon with however much strength, it'll give you the exact dice you need to roll.

I'm not one of those people who thinks AI solves everything. It's spectacularly bad at some things, but it will reliably answer any and all basic rules stuff that you're not able to keep track of yourself, including answering things like "my turn is coming up and I'm in this situation, can you suggest actions I could take?".

I found myself nodding along to people telling me they wish they weren't wasting the rest of the table's time, but they just can't remember this stuff - for about three seconds, before going hey wait a minute they're choosing to do this, there's an obvious alternative.
