Alesis Nitro Max Not Working as MIDI
Hello all.
I just got myself the Alesis Nitro Max and wanted to plug it into my laptop (Zephyrus G14) to record and use VST's. I'm new to music and MIDI stuff, but even after following a load of tutorials and reading a lot of posts, I haven't been able to find out why the kit isn't sending any hits to my laptop.
I bought a new USB-A male to USB-B male (USB Link), have set up BFD Player, redeemed all the included software, selected the correct engine keymap in BFD, turned LOC off and GM on within the kit module (and vise versa), unplugged, restarted, etc. and still nothing has worked. To be clear, BFD does recognize that the kit is plugged in and it is selected in the Input Device menu. I have also tried plugging my headphones into both the module and the laptop, so I don't believe it's an audio issue.
I've also tried setting it up with Ableton, which granted I'm not too familiar with, and haven't gotten any feedback on there either (going off of the little input box in the top right).
Is there a step I'm missing? Based on everything I've seen I should be able to just plug the USB cable right into my laptop, right? Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to be as clear as I could. Thank You!!
Solution: For those of you on Windows, the issue seems to be the USB ports being incompatible with the kit module, which requires USB 2.0. u/burymyself says that this USB 2.0 hub has worked. I haven’t had any issues with Mac, but I assume the same solution applies.
Update: Still no luck getting the kit to connect to my windows laptop; however, I did have complete success on an Intel MacBook Air. Plugged the kit in, set up all the software (BFD and Ableton) and it works just like all the tutorials online show you. u/burymyself suggested that it might be a problem with the USB ports on my windows laptop and I think that's correct. Gonna see if there's any workaround, will update if I find one. Side note: Alesis customer support hasn't been great so I wouldn't recommend reaching out to them for help.
