Avoiding electricity in ischemic vtach?
I'm a paramedic, and during my last shift change I overheard two coworkers (also medics) talking about an MI pt one of them had where the pt went into a wide complex tachycardia. They said something along the lines of "obviously I didn't light them up, because then they would have just went into vfib into asystole" and they gave them amio instead.
Now, I've never heard of this and my ~15 minutes of googling hasn't turned up anything about this. Is this just some weird EMS superstition or does anyone have some references I can read about it? When I was in medic school we were taught that electricity is safer than any chemical cardioversion, and the cardiologists teaching us 12 leads didn't really like amio (they had a joke that their favorite cardioversion drug was versed and 200J), so I've always had an aversion to amio as well. Thanks in advance for educating me!
