Would I regret buying a Breville Barista Pro? [$1000]
I've been on the edge of buying an espresso machine for a long time now. My research led me to the Breville Barista Pro, which seemed like a nice machine with a wide feature set in my price range of 800-1200. However, after a bit of reading and browsing threads on this subreddit, I'm not sure anymore.
General consensus is that the machine is decent at everything, but falls short in a few areas. Most people suggest buying a separate grinder, upgrading the portafilter, replacing other parts, etc. Some people say it's wholly incapable of cafe-quality espresso. Obviously there's something to be said for a machine that "does it all". But if I'm wondering if I could use the money I save by not buying an all-in-one to instead get a machine (or individual parts) that will give me better coffee.
I'm not trying to become a barista, nor do I think I'll ever get to the point where I spend $3000 on a Lelit Bianca (even though they're very pretty). But I also don't want to buy an expensive machine and upgrade a bunch of stuff just to realize that I've now spent enough to have bought a better machine in the first place. I just want to make good quality stuff at home. The ease of using the BBP is attractive, but if I can make better coffee for a similar price point, I'd like to consider that option.
It's difficult to sort through the arguments online, so I figured I'd come straight to the source and ask the people that have actual experience with these machines. Would I regret buying a BBP? Is there some other machine that espresso hobbyists agree is a better option?
