(possibly) unpopular opinion: eu4 goes hard on the steam deck

I bought a steam deck and decided to try eu4 on it. I did not initially have high hopes, but I spent a few hours working out the best controls for it and now I don't think I'll be going back to a regular PC.

First of all, it's just really nice to have portable eu4 that I can just pick up and play on my couch/backyard/etc.

The steam deck trackpad is so much better than laptop trackpads and once I got the sensitivity worked out and had been playing for a few hours, it started feeling natural. Also being able to use the touchscreen is really nice.

Also an important note is that in my ~10 years of playing this game, I never really got used to most keybinds and would mostly click around instead of using the keyboard, but for whatever reason, using keybinds on a controller comes much more naturally to me and for the first time, I'm regularly using them.

The two major things that are annoying are when you want to type in names to search (for obvious reasons) and shift clicking. Idk if I'm just being dumb, but I haven't figured out a way to make shift clicking work, so if anyone has any tips for that, it would be much appreciated.

That being said, I'm a much more casual gamer than I was as a kid, and I think I would only recommend the steam deck for this game if that sounds like you. The ease and convenience of a mobile console are more important to me right now than the few L's you take in functionality.

If anyone else has played eu4 on the steam deck, I'd love to hear about your experience with it.
