Neighbor behind our property was target shooting in the direction of our home because they “thought no one lived there”

As the titles says. Neighbor was target shooting in our direction and two out of 3 bullets hit our hallway. The third was high enough into our living room it wouldn’t have hurt anyone. Luckily our toddler was safely napping in his crib and my husband and I were in the living room. The sheriff’s department was called but we were told nothing could be done as far as repercussions
