*urgent* flea ridden ferret was given to me today
I’m not going to give the whole back story, but I bought this ferret (Winter) about 2 years ago to be with my current ferret, but they didn’t get along well so I gave her to someone else in my family that had ferrets. I trusted this person and was under the impression their animals were well cared for
Today I was given her back because she was this person’s only remaining ferret, which struck me as odd, until I saw her. I am completely astonished at the condition she is in, she is completely riddled with fleas and is somehow orange/yellow.
My vet will not be open til tomorrow, I will be calling to schedule an appointment first thing in the morning but for now Ive been bathing her. I’ve gotten some of the orangeish yellow funk off of her but she’s still yellow. I’ve been picking fleas off of her too but everytime I think I’ve gotten them all, more appears.
The first 2 pictures are here before any baths. This ferret used to be WHITE with some gray. The third picture is from the day I had bought her 2 years ago. I feel like throwing up because I feel like it is my fault she has ended up in this condition.
I was told by this person that they think the yellow might be from fleas but they weren’t sure. Has anyone ever seen this before? Does anyone have any advice on how to make her comfortable until her vet appointment tomorrow?
I have a double ferret nation for my single older ferret and I plan on setting up either the top or bottom section for her temporarily so they are separated. I’m not even sure if they will get along because they didn’t 2 years ago when I first tried to keep them together.
Any advice on this situation at all would be helpful. I feel such immense guilt and I just want to do whatever I can to make this situation right.
