During a checkride, how many mistakes can you make before you fail?

I am assuming it depends on the severity of the question? Or is it more of a one-and-done kind of thing?

Another question if anyone has the answer to it: how many checkrides can you fail? Is there a limit?

Edit: looking more so at PPL checkride, but could also be a general thing, too
