Unpopular opinion- still not done with book1

I am really struggling to understand Xaden and Violets romance!??? I feel like there is no depth or actual connection between Xaden and Violet. I only understand that violet was basically lusting over him the whole time she was a cadet but never saw that reciprocated by Xaden until the night they were they made out. I just don’t feel like it makes any sense. Now I’m struggling to read this book because it’s just so lustful vs feeling like I’m falling in love. I understand the point of dark and mysterious but so far it’s boring and I feel like it happens to fast! Please tell me it gets better because I’m struggling to get through it. PS Really enjoying the dragon lore so far!
