I'm fascinated by African cities

Touba, Senegal. You could legit miss this city of 1.1 million. I have nothing academic to say about it tbh. It's so gentle and well hidden in the desert. It seems to have evolved so gradually, naturally - there's no defined boundery, no clear distinction between inner city and suburb. There's a slight grid but in general it looks like people just what they want at a pace that suits them. There is a clear "ring road" around the centre with a reserved width for a future multilane highway which people seem to observe cordially. There is an important Mosque at the centre.

Why, what, how? I want to know everything!
