Advice for pregnant guineas
I am a first time guinea pig foster mum looking for some advice! These 2 lovely girls were abandoned with 22 other guinea pigs. Both are completing their pregnancy watch in my home. They received vet exams prior to foster placement and were medically cleared. The vet stated one is definitely pregnant and close to giving birth.
I have had them for 2 days now; they’re both very scared and mostly hide all day. I don’t think they have ever had a varied diet as they have only been eating the pellets I provide, ignoring their hay and veggies. I’m nervous they won’t get the necessary nutrients for a healthy pregnancy and wondered what I can try to get them eating hay consistently?
So far, I have placed their food bowl by their hides so it’s easily accessible, hay is placed on the floor in multiple places, I chopped up kale really small and mixed it with their pellets (which was a small success as they did eat some). The enclosure has multiple hides, is cleaned daily, is in its own quiet room away from our other pets, and the top is covered with a blanket to help them feel secure.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
