How to add height to string lights?

We have string lights in our back yard. They're tethered to the back of the house and to a patio umbrella. It works well but currently they're too low and interfere with opening and closing of the umbrella. How can I add a little bit of a height to the umbrella post? I can hacka solution (by attaching a rod via zip ties), bit maybe there is a better way? The lights are from Costco and not too heavy.
