How to make meaning out of the Purana’s?

Why did Daksha get angry at shiva for not showing him respect and not invite Shiva to the ceremony when Daksha itself asked for a boon from Shiva to marry Kali (Sati) for which Kali was born from Veerini’s womb?

I have been reading Shiv Puran and this doesn’t make sense to me.

Can anyone explain.
