Vanlab?
Thinking of setting up a small homelab in my van. I have a small camper and I go away for work once a month for 1-4 nights, and for leisure once or twice a month.
Obviously I don't "need" a homelab on the go but I think it will be nice. I have some equipment at the moment so this is what I'm thinking:
GL.iNet Beryl AX Travel Router
E3372h-320 4G Modem USB
Raspberry Pi 5 with 1TB USB SSD
Small 4 port switch
Ideally all of this would be under 10W to work with my battery setup, I will have to test exactly how much.
I would have two Cat5e ports hardwired through the van into the switch to plug my laptop into. The travel router would connect to 4G and/or any available WiFi and use that as the WAN connection, and broadcast its own WiFi for phones and Steam Deck etc. I can VPN back into the home network through the router so all devices can use my self hosted services.
I'm thinking the Pi can run a Jellyfin server with some media on the SSD if I have no internet connection, and a simple file share to offload camera footage from my camera and drone onto while on the go. Although to be honest maybe I'm just better plugging the SSD into the router and using it's built in "NAS" functionality and cut out the Pi? It would be cool to have some compute on the go though. I wonder if anyone has any cool ideas for what the Pi could do.
