Starter scary movie recommendations for a group of tweens
I’ve got a gaggle of middle school girls here for a slumber party. They like “scary” movies at slumber parties, and since I’m tired of Scary Stories to Tell In The Dark and FNAF (kill me 🤦🏼♀️) I’ve been introducing them to some age appropriate favorites of mine when we do a sleepover. So far we’ve watched: • the grudge • skeleton key • the others (Can you tell what age bracket I’M in?! 😂)
I was thinking of The Sixth Sense, or maybe The Village… I know there’s so many good ones that I’m just not thinking of and Google just spits out the same 10 movie suggestions I’m tired of seeing. Wanted to see if y’all had any suggestions/recommendations? They’re all around 12 years old so PG-13 only please! 🖤🖤🖤
UPDATE/THANK YOU
Ok, FIRST OF ALL: I have posted on Reddit several times over the years, definitely more of a lurker than a poster, but sometimes I do. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten more than 5-7 responses on any of them ever, whether it’s a houseplant, interior design, fashion, parenting or whatever community. Y’all when I checked to see if anyone responded about an hour after I posted I was 🤞🏻 I had more than 2 responses because I just assumed at least one would be rude/snarky and unhelpful (seems to be the Reddit way, but I love/hate it here so it is what it is). I had like 45 notifications. I don’t even know how many it is now. A lot. Sometimes horror fans get a negative rap by society in general (idk if any of y’all knew that 😜) but we’re solid people. It just really made my creepy, dark heart so full to see this. I love y’all, you’re the best, and I’m going to be referencing this list for forever. 🖤 SECOND: lots of great suggestions, some I’ve never even seen and can’t wait to check out. A lot of them did exceed to PG-13 rating but they’re on the future list. I gave them a choice of a couple movies with very loose descriptions and they chose the sixth sense. I got to watch that movie for the first time all over again through them, the 🤯 “shut up. He’s dead? The WHOLE TIME?! OMG!” Was absolutely amazing. This is just one of those little perks you don’t even think about when deciding to have kids. Reminded me of when one of my girls was like 3 and she watched Snow White for the first time and she absolutely lost her shit when she came back to life. Like, she had no idea that was remotely a possibility. Makes me so excited for Saw, Cabin in the Woods, Seven, You’re Next… getting to experience the “no fucking way” all over again through them. Just a really cool evening all around between my slumber party gals & you beautiful people.
& you’re all absolutely right, I’m going to have to have them watch The Ring at some point. It’s a right of passage. The best way to calm your fears is to spread them around, ammaright?! I’ll just have to watch it through the camera on my phone (am I the only one that does this? Like, I’m not gonna close my eyes on really terrifying movie scenes but I’m not looking directly at the screen 🤪).
