Border patrol threw away all my houseplants
I’d been living in Ontario for 4 years and had never had an issue bringing plants back and forth. They would just have agriculture check them out and give me the go. And those were for outdoor plants typically (which are the main concern because they are the ones who will bring invasive plant/bug species across). Well it was time for me to move back to the US….
And they did not send me to agriculture. Nope. They took all my indoor houseplants and tossed them in a dumpster. Let me keep my pots. But they threw everything away. I had a beautiful pink princess, a marble queen, a MASSIVE Beria gated neon pothos, some gorgeous cacti that had been consistently flowering for months that I was so proud of. My snake plant had even flowered I was so proud. AND a stunning prayer plant that I had finally figured out how to care for without it suddenly getting mad and dying like all the others.
They gave me no reasoning. I had even mentioned prior how they’ve never given me an issue and have always just sent me to have them looked over by agriculture and that these plants would also never see outside (they were kept in a box for travel to so literally would never touch anything outside). They just told me tough luck.
Devastated was an understatement. It really broke me and I have since only bought one plant and it’s been like 9 months. At least I have my pots still I guess? :’)
