How do I turn this thing off?

So I moved into this rental yesterday and it has this gas furnace (Lopi Berkshire Radiant) as the only heat source. The landlord very specifically told us not to touch the furnace unit at all. She said to only use the remote, or it will mess up the calibration. Well I went to turn it off today and nothing changed. According to the remote it’s off, but the flames are still just as big, and it’s still giving off heat. It does have a power switch on top of the unit that I haven’t tried, since she told me not to touch it.

I emailed her but no response. What should I do? Is the house gonna burn down overnight? Please help! Thanks in advance.
