Squad wrecking itself

In the Achtung Spitfire scripted campaign my squad keeps colliding with itself in the Escort mission. It’s a 6 plane formation and I usually lose 4 planes when they crash amongst themselves…

So it’s 2 planes left against all the fighters that come for the bombers. We get overwhelmed

I doubt this is part of the mission. Anyone else experiencing this?
