Dropped a test drive bike, caused some damage. Now what?

I test drove a Triumph Speed 400 today in Chennai and since I was not accustomed to ride by wire, it turned out to be too sensitive, making it difficult for me to control. Previously I had test drove H'ness, Meteor and Interceptor which worked out fine, so I was confident I can manage the 400. But I dropped the bike at a corner, but only lightly. That caused the bar end mirror to break (the rod itself) and the brake lever end also broke. When I gave the bike back, the test agent enquired, I told I dropped the bike. He drove it as well and then said that bike fork is also bent.

I am on learner's license for bikes. I had asked the test agent to sit on back, but he didn't, so I drove the bike by myself. The test agent then called the dealership and the manager spoke to me. He said they will send the bike to service center and once they assess it, I will have to foot the damages.

My question is:

  1. Aren't test drive vehicles under insurance as well? This bike was on a red plate. Shouldn't insurance pay for any damages here? The test agent said that the bar end mirror and brake lever will not be covered under insurance.
  2. If it comes to me to pay, how should I negotiate? I don't think I am completely at fault here, given that I am also hurt a bit and had clearly told the dealership that I was on learner's.

Any other guidance on how to work through this.
