Industrial Engineering vs Accounting

Hello, I'm having trouble deciding between industrial engineering and accounting for my college major. On one hand, industrial engineering appeals to me because it focuses on optimizing and facilitating systems, which aligns with my personality since I always measure efficiency when making decisions. Furthermore, I've heard that industrial engineering students collaborate with many other departments in the university, exposing them to various academic fields, which is a significant advantage for me as someone interested in a variety of subjects.

On the other hand, my parents believe that becoming an accountant is the better choice. Having a license means a more stable and secure job outlook, and being a licensed accountant allows for flexibility in work, which is a significant benefit. Although I'm not as excited about accounting as I am about industrial engineering, I recognize that it might be a better long-term choice due to the licensing requirement.

Initially, I considered majoring in industrial engineering and minoring in accounting, but I'm uncertain if I can handle the workload. Another option I considered is majoring in industrial engineering and taking the CPA test. However, I wonder if this is practical. How likely am I to pass the CPA without majoring in accounting?

As an international student planning to study abroad, I'm also curious which degree would better enable me to secure a job. What are your thoughts on majoring in industrial engineering versus accounting?
