Finished Insanity for the first time!!!

I started Insanity with my roommate a couple months ago during quarantine and we just finished today! I'v tried insanity a couple times in the past but never made it past 2-3 weeks. It feels great besting this monstrous challenge! I'v seen a ton of transformation in my body and it's really encouraging!

Month 2 was really tough and even at the end, it was still a struggle to keep up with the videos. Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do next? My friend suggested we just start at month 1 and work through the entire program again but to be honest I want some variety. I'v been looking at lift4 or insanity asylum next but I feel like asylum might be too much considering I still found month 2 pretty difficult. Thanks!

Some tips for anyone else looking to complete it!

  • If possible find someone to do the workout with and make a set time you do it every day. It becomes routine and even if you don't feel like working out you still show up because someone else is there too. Even if it's just an online buddy, message each other an hour before to have a quick snack for energy and then a few minutes before to start!
  • It's okay if you can't keep up with the video. They're professional trainers and in the best of shape, if you can only do 20 seconds of the 60 seconds then focus on your form and push as hard as you can for those 20 seconds, then get some water and take a breath and get ready for the next exercise.
  • Take an extra rest day! There's no shame in taking an extra rest day if you need it, especially if you're a beginner or not in amazing shape. I quickly found my workouts getting worse and worse the further I got into insanity. Even though thursday was a "recovery" workout, it was a still a strain on my muscles and I wasn't properly recovering because I just wasn't in good enough shape. I ended up turning thursdays into an extra rest day and my workouts started to improve.
  • More rest. Insanity pushed me harder than anything I'v done in the past decade. Getting proper sleep and taking care of my body with enough food and energy really helped a ton. I know a lot of you are doing this to lose weight, but you need to eat well if you're going to do this for an entire two months. You can still lose weight doing this, but don't just go for 1200 calories and not eat back any of your exercise calories because you're going to find yourself slowly getting more and more exhausted as the workout goes on.
  • Take pictures of your body. If you don't think insanity is working for you or if you don't think it's worth the effort, compare your week to week pictures side by side!
  • Exercise is a tool, not an easy fix. You're not going to get in amazing shape and shred 100lbs just doing insanity. Insanity is a tool to help you achieve that goal but your diet and rest is equally important, if not even more important.
  • Don't compare yourself to others. You're doing this for yourself and you don't need to keep up as well as your friend to still see good results. Know your limits and push yourself to what's reasonable for you!
