Teachers of Ireland. Do you need to have a permanent job to apply for a mortgage?

I’m really unhappy in the school I’m in and the thought of having to stay there over the long and drawn out buying a home quest fills me with anxiety.

I am single and will be buying alone. Any advice is very welcome.

Thank you for your responses. It’s very helpful to hear from people who have also gone through this. I should add I’ve been teaching for 16 years and have a good history of saving. Maybe I should apply for the mortgage while I’m in my permanent position and go from there.
