My Mother’s Australian opal

Just wanted to share my favorite piece (and probably my only piece of any value lol) in my collection!

My mom gifted me this opal for my birthday last year because I had mentioned I was thinking of buying some opal jewelry. My mom’s birthstone is opal; she was gifted this necklace by her parents for one of her birthdays (not sure which one). She has never been a huge fan of opals, so she decided to gift this to me and ‘pass it on.’ It’s barely been worn as a result, and still has the original box and information/warranty card.

I think it’s so beautiful, I especially love the ornate chain and setting, it’s unlike anything I’ve seen in more modern jewelry. I’m not sure exactly what it’s vintage is, in case anyone has a better guess than me (based on my mom’s age, I am guessing mid 70s?). I plan on wearing it on my wedding day later this year, I’m so thankful to have it.
