The combination VoixCo and Aaron Carter CD

Yes you read that right. Aaron Carter had a Korean exclusive CD ft tracks by the girl group VoixCo.

Why did he have a joint CD with a relatively unknown girl group you may ask? Here’s the lore:

-VoixCo was a 4 member gg that debuted in 2001 under Jive Records Korea. Jive Records was known in the US as the company Britney Spears, NSYNC, and Aaron Carter used to be under, so there was a lot of buzz surrounding this gg during the audition process (I believe this was also Jive’s 1st attempt at an international branch)

-Chae Rina from Roora and Diva helped to produce this group

-Narsha from Brown Eyed Girls and actress Goo Hye Sun auditioned for this group. Chae Rina and Narsha mention it here but I’m not sure exactly what they were saying since I don’t understand Korean. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=04xeWKWBr68&t=133s&pp=2AGFAZACAQ%3D%3D

-YG Entertainment is known for their 4 member girl groups (2NE1, Big Mama and Blackpink) but their 1st girl group Swi.T, only had 3 members. That was because there was supposed to be a 4th member (B-Ya), but she ended up dropping out and auditioned for VoixCo instead because she wanted to quickly debut and Jive Records was already a major label in the US.

-One of the songs off their first album is a cover of “Lucky” by Britney Spears. https://youtu.be/vsWOIRdK1lo?si=HjmFOuihSeUglGbS

-Since this was Jive’s 1st attempt at an international branch, they were quite inexperienced with the way promotions worked in Korea. Because of this, they were hardly on any tv broadcasting activities or popular music shows. There aren’t even videos of them on the Mbckpop YouTube channel, so I assume they didn’t even perform on Music Camp at all.

-In 2002, the movie “Ice Age” was released and was a success in America. Jive Records Korea took this an opportunity for VoixCo to be part of the Korean promotions for this movie in order to gain more publicity. Their comeback song “Ice Baby” was track that had rock and hip hop elements, and featured clips of the Ice Age movie throughout the MV. However, this still didn’t bring them much success. https://youtu.be/XTTwwXe-PFk?si=Y500tghYWbEi3Bqw

In conclusion, VoixCo basically faded into obscurity and disbanded due to poor management and lack of promotions.

I got all this info from Korean sites and used Google translate so if anything is mistranslated or there’s something missing that I haven’t mentioned, please let me know!
