I don’t like how new groups don’t have member roles/titles

So many newer groups have abandoned the whole main vocal, dancer, rapper thing and it bothers me. I guess the point is to push the idea that all members are skilled in everything (aka “we have a group of aces!!”) but like…That’s almost never true. Instead, nowadays it seems like we have entire groups with no real vocalist and no real rapper. Now don’t get me wrong, there are groups that have particular members sing the most/rap the most, so they unofficially are the rapper or singer.

But what I mean is that no one is meant to be…the GOOD one. Having no title absolves the responsibility of actually being half-decent at what you do. As a fan, I’d like to be able to have confidence in at least ONE member to be the good singer, or ONE member to be the good rapper, etc. But instead, a lot of newer groups have what is essentially a collection of “okay” members. And it’s really hard for me to listen to songs from these groups, because the quality is also just “okay”.

I miss being able to have confidence in group members, to know who is skilled in what and appreciate them for that reason. So tired of the “everyone’s an ace” narrative that is 99% of the time false.

Does anyone else get bothered by the lack of roles today?
