skz's fabulous korean-english wordplay in oddinary

good evening friends!

trying to post this again bc it’s been over 72 hours so hopefully it won’t be filtered/redirected again bc I want this to be an actual post lol

in light of skz's new comeback, and after having listened to it on repeat for the past few days, I have noticed some glorious moments throughout a few of the songs (and there are probably more that I've missed) that exemplify some really cool english-korean wordplay!

so here's a random appreciation post for it!! get ready for some overexcited rambling >:)

venom/거미줄: so the korean title of this song is "spider web", which in korean is literally spider (거미) + string (줄). In a few moments throughout the song, they chant "got me got me got me", which is written as such in the lyrics, but it also sounds almost identical to if they were chanting "거미 거미 거미" which is so COOL because it works perfectly like they're chanting "spider spider spider" in korean!!

maniac: this one could just be a coincidence when considering the full translation of the lyric, but I still think it's cool! jeongin's line in the second half, which is written out as "no fresh 해" also sounds like "no fresh air". with the full lyric it reads something like "the smile I'm making is not fresh". if you use the wordplay, he could be saying "the smile I'm making is not fresh air" which definitely sounds a little weird but kind of gives a similar vibe? like it's a stale smile or something? idk this one could be a bit of a reach lmao

charmer: the line "넌 못 참아 (I'm the charmer)" is currently being translated a few different ways; I've seen "you can't stand it" and "you can't endure it" and some others. I personally translated it more like "you can't resist (it/me)", just considering certain implications that come with using the word "charmer"; it sounds more.... well. also like 2 lines before they literally sing "you can't resist it" in english, so yeah. but!! I'm not fluent in korean at all, and the verb 참다 has so many english equivalents/translations that it makes my head hurt, so we'll probably never know unless/until a 3racha member tells us himself lol. that aside, it's no accident that "참아" sounds eerily similar to "charmer" (especially when you say charmer in an australian accent hahaha). so, when they say "charmer, charmer, charmer" (written in english), it is also like they're saying "참아 참아 참아", which, again, can have slightly varying translations, but is probably something like "resist, resist, resist (it)" or "endure, endure, endure (it)"!

*slight modification here bc I'm being educated that the wordplay is most likely from changbin (I'd assumed chan just bc english fluency)!! idk why I wasn't aware of this lol I've been a stay for over 2 years now 😭 but thanks to those who've pointed that out! so creds (mostly/probably) to changbin for these!!

also there are probably loads more that I've missed so if u've noticed any others lmk!!

(pps just to say again that I'm nowhere near fluent in korean! so I'm in no way trying to say my translations are "more correct", they're simply my thoughts/ideas, and if they aren't please let me know!! or if you're fluent and you actually know what the correct translation is haha I'd love to know)
