Thoughts on Skip Passes/Lanes with new JV players

Quick question - JV team full of new freshman and I'm discouraging skip passes right now because they need to learn to support the ball adjacent and move it quickly, especially on man up drills. Most don't have the stick skills yet to thread the needle, so it's a low percentage pass, but we discuss getting good quality looks and appropriate off ball movement. I thinking about letting the players play more freely this year and trust their instincts vs a more ridged approach. With newbies you tend to want to structure everything because they are so new but perhaps it kills a little of their own ability to think freely.

Wondering everyone's thoughts on letting them play free, within reason, and go for the skip pass or teach restraint and wait for that IQ to develop further down the road?
