My friend robbed a bank, what should he do?

Not sure if this the proper subreddit to post this so if not can you kindly point me in the right direction.

My friend worked at a financial institution and was caught taking money out of an elderly persons account for self interest; shortly returning it after. He’s being charged with elderly abuse from the party themselves but as of now no charges from the financial institution has been brought forward. Whats his best course of action? How does he go about trying to reduce or preventing jail time as a whole? State of California for context
