If an employer gets rid of your position

What are normally the next steps? I was told that the company would be trying to relocate everyone in that position to something else. When I asked what the date would be where I would no longer receive shifts, my boss said she doesn’t know.

I heard other colleagues saying it’s Jan 31. If that is the date and I don’t have another position what happens?
