Is it worth investing in external antivirus software?

I originally got ESET cyber security with my MacBook Air 2020 model, and I renewed it through 2024 but am not sure it’s worth continuing. I mostly use it to do work, but once in a blue moon I’ve gone on to some less than reputable sites to stream movies, although I mostly do that on my iPad now. I’m not sure whether it was worth extending my antivirus software, especially if Xprotect is still active on my Mac (which I think it is?)
