Does a macbook case really ruin you mac?

I heard that macbook cases ruined your mac like the plastic or whatever material it was used that it really wear down your screen hinges overtime, cover the holes of your Mac to breath air to stop it from overheating, etc? I need opinion from fellow macbook air user!
