Stats are a distraction that is costing you games

Tldr: Stats are a huge distraction that will only lose you games. ESPECIALLY healing stats. More healing does not equal a good healer

I have been a GM Overwatch support/tank and have been GM season 0 and 1 for Marvel rivals.

I have noticed there is a lot of stat viewing and comparing in this game.

Here's a secret... they don't matter in the way that most people think.

Pointing blame and tilting your team will almost always net you a loss. Distracting your team by being toxic/focusing on stats mid game will almost always net you a loss.

The only 2 stats that somewhat tell a true story are:

Kills/killing blows -

It is important for your team to finish off kills, if there is a massive gap between team killing blows and that of a damage player AND you are losing, there may be a switch to be made.

Damage - if there is a large gap between a damage player and others on the team AND they have few killing blows AND you are losing, there may be a switch to be made.

Even then.. I have had games where I've gone squirrel girl, done 30k damage, and lost because I wasn't finishing any kills. I could choose to find someone to blame, but instead, I will choose to swap next time I am doing a lot of damage but not securing kills. This choice will allow me to keep ranking.

HEALING STATS DO NOT TELL THE FULL STORY

Here is what that means:

If you are winning, healing stats mean absolutely nothing at all. Gg, go next and win again.

If team 1's tanks, healers, and damage are better than team 2's tanks healers and damage, and they are playing the same comp, the winning team will have LESS healing done.

Part of everyone's job is to take less damage if possible. So, in this scenario, there is just less healing to be had.

It is very easy to appear to be a good support because big numbers look good. A cloak and dagger who never once heals a dps (aside from their ult) will still put up big healing numbers. However, nothing on the other team will die because your dps is always dead. It's then easy to place blame on the dps because they APPEAR to be bad.

If a dps is complaining about not getting heals, it's for a reason. The three main reasons are:

  1. Your team is staggering
  2. Healers are only focusing tanks and other healers
  3. The dps player is out of position, and they don't know

This does not mean you instantly start blaming dps positioning. It means you let them know that you are trying, but it's hard to get a line of sight on them while keeping everyone else up. Work together, not against each other.

The best way to climb in this game is to communicate and not attack your teammates. Aiming is easy
