Maining Rocket Feels Bad
I know there's people who have "easily" climbed from unranked to Celestial just by playing him only, and one who did it without doing any damage, but maining Rocket is actually painful and it sucks.
- He's popular, because he's at the top of every tierlist and people regularly talk about him being the "easiest character in the game to play", so a lot of the time I can't even pick him because someone else has insta-locked him.
- Because he's popular, people that have barely played him are picking him and doing very badly, and because nobody ever swaps even if you ask very very nicely, I have to watch someone with 49 minutes on him, and with like 14 hours in another character, lose us the match in comp because they think he's easy to play and will just win the game for them for free. I don't care in QP, but people are doing this in comp and it sucks.
- He's apparently an "off-healer", because his heals are not good enough for him to keep everyone up by himself, which means if the other support picks someone like Loki or Adam or Jeff (who are all also apparently off-healers), I can't play Rocket or we'll lose.
- I end up having to switch off him a lot to one of the characters with an immortality ult. If my team has Rocket and Luna, and the enemy team has Luna and C&D, we lose if I don't swap to one. So again I don't get to play him all that much.
- He is scapegoated a lot because he's not as active in the match. He's not as flashy as the other supports so he's not noticed by his own team that much, so people think he's not doing anything and just sucks a lot of the time.
- He has both a reputation of being an amazing support with great heals and a terrible support with bad heals, so if I lose with him, to the people on my team it can either be because I just suck and I'm terrible since he has great heals and I just didn't heal well enough, or because he's garbage and I never should have picked him.
- Rocket is the priority #1 support over all other supports in my experience. People want me dead more than when I play any other character in the game, especially if they're a diver or flanker. They will 100% go for me over our other support, every time, and they will chase me FAR. I've had times where I managed to get away but they just kept chasing me and chasing me until I was extremely far from my team. Then they manage to finally kill me like 12 seconds later because I run out of dashes.
- No one appreciates Rocket. No I don't play support to get praises (I'm tired of people accusing me of that), but it sucks when I see people appreciate and give thanks to the other supports and I have literally not once ever seen anyone do that for me when I'm playing Rocket. I've seen it playing other supports, but never Rocket. I'll see people talk about how much they appreciate Rocket when they're Bucky or Punisher, but not a single Bucky or Punisher has ever even used the "Thanks" voiceline when I put down their infinite ammo thing and let them get a quad kill.
- He's the most boring support to play. I know this is only an opinion and people will disagree with it, naturally, but I find him to be the most boring to play. Most of the match is spent holding right click. Using left click can get teammates killed a lot of the time, so it's only used when someone is in your face. I really don't find using dash or wall climb to evade enemies very fun because it's stressful as hell. If I make even the smallest mistake while evading them, I'm dead. His kit is also boring. It's just stationary deployable 1-3. He's just not very active aside from his mobility used to run away. All the other supports have much more things to do and are much more active in the team. Most of Rocket's kit is placing stationary objects.
- Going off the last one, he's not canonically accurate aside from his looks and I guess his voice and voicelines.
- Because he's "the easiest character to play in the game", and according to a lot of people the "easiest character in the game to rank up with", because I can't rank up fast with him that just makes me feel like I flat out suck, because I can't quickly rank up with the "easiest character in the entire game".
- I feel like I'm not doing enough a lot of the time I play him. I'm healing to the best of my ability, I'm getting like 30-40k heals, and yet people are still just instantly dying on my team and we're not progressing. A lot of the time I feel like, if I was playing anyone else, we would be winning and doing a lot better, but because I'm Rocket my whole team is having a bad time.
So why the hell do I play him?
Because he's Rocket and he's my favorite character.
But maining him just makes me sad.
