Legendary Edition Mass Effect 1 keeps crashing at the Saren fight?

The title says it all. I've tried this fight 5 times now and every time Saren gets to ~35% hp the entire game freezes and then crashes. I've verified the integrity of game files and updated my drivers. Any other suggestions?
