Tibia Pain When Running short Distances

Hi all,

Posted on r/running but it got removed… Hoping for some advice. I recently started experiencing pretty severe upper, inside, tibia pain. I have looked at many prior posts and web articles, but nearly all tibia threads/articles focus on shin splint or ankle-area pain. But I’m experiencing pain on both tibia, at the very TOP of the bone, and only on the interior part (I.e. the side of the bone facing between my legs, not facing out.) And it doesn’t affect the fibula or femur at all, ONLY the tibia. I can’t say for sure, but IMO it feels like the pain is in the bone, not tendons, ligaments, or muscles.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, did you do anything to treat it besides resting? And how long did it take to subside? Were you able to resume running?

As far as background: I am very, very new to running. I’m only going 1/3-1/2 mile at a time, at about 6mph. I’m a little overweight but otherwise fit. I regularly weight train and can pretty easily bike 30+ miles. But for some reason running is killing me and causing a lot of pain. But I really want to work up to a 5k and maybe 10k someday. I’m mostly running on flat treadmills and occasionally on flat outside ground.

Thanks for any advice! This is super discouraging as a new runner!
