Does your family openly share family recipes or carefully guard them from others?

I’ve heard others describe awkward interactions with strangers when requesting recipes. Even some family members seem unwilling to share their secrets on that special dish. I remember even my own mother waited a few years before sharing recipes with my wife, as if she needed to be certain the marriage would stick before handing anything over!
