Am I making a lethal mistake?

19(M) I've been wanting a motorcycle even since I took the training wheels of my bike as a kid. Now that I'm going the army I'm getting a bonus of ~14000. I've done some (medium to light) research and decided on a Gsxr-750 as my first bike. I like to think of myself (and have been told aswell) as a smart and cautious person but I'm seeking wisdom from the bike community. My parents think I'm going to kill myself and should never ride a motorcycle at all, and some of friends say I shouldn't get anything bigger than ~300cc. (LLGB 🕊 crashed his bike into a building after his girl split) That's why I think they don't want me getting a fast bike. Please lmk your opinions.

My mom said if I pull up on a bike my shit will be out on the lawn that night. But I'm enlisting so 🤷.

Edit: I have a 2017 civic so I have a reliable form of transportation from day to day. Motorcycle for hobby riding not rly daily. Also thank you for the advice everyone I'm taking everything to heart

Edit p2: Researching the abs version of the cbr600rr or ZX-6R abs, seeing lots of 500 to 600 start bike is alot better. I'm 6'2 and 190 so the bike is more about feel and look than performance. Want a sport bike but I want something bigger because of my size yk?
