What are the best film adaptations of Shakespeare?
This question prompted by my recently watching Joel Coen's Tragedy Of Macbeth. As someone who has admittedly never seen any version of Macbeth and who has only seen a handful of Shakespeare adaptations overall (most of them stage productions), I was captivated by Coen's version of The Scottish Play - the stripped back production design, the German expressionist black and white cinematography, and of course Denzel's magnetic performance (he's literally so good, I feel like it's just taken for granted now just how good he is). I'd like to know if any other adaptations of Shakespeare's works manage to present in such a unique way. Off the top of my head I can only think of Baz Lurhmann's Romeo + Juliet.
