Want to start buying and selling seriously.

Hi all! I’ve been in this subreddit for quite awhile now. I’ve made a few specs, made some money and lost some money over the years. Been playing since RTR block.

A lifelong dream of mine has been to take this game more seriously from a financial standpoint. Start buying and selling cards to make a profit, and the end goal is owning an LGS.

I own a blue collar business, and I’m blessed enough that it nearly covers my bills without me having to really work anymore. I’m not looking to exit this business, but have found myself with both the free time and a small bit of disposable income to start taking this dream of mine seriously. Plus it’s a bit slow right now, and like I said, it nearly covers my bills lol.

I have some questions and am looking for some guidance, and hope this place is the right place to ask.

Firstly, what’s a good initial investment amount? I recently bought an old collection for $500 that probably has $1k worth of $2-$3 cards and about 1-2k playable cheap cards as a way to start making sales through tcgplayer to get reviews and get things moving. But what $ amount of inventory am I shooting for to see profits even in the $1-$3k/month range to start?

Secondly, is tcgplayer the best place to get started with this? I’m in facebook groups that are great places as well, but I imagine traffic is higher on tcgplayer.

Third, where do you source most of your inventory? I know approximate %’s I want to pick up at, but curious how I find those people selling collections at those rates (60-75% tcglow).
