For people making their own music - how did you learn to sing?

This bit usually stumps me. I used to write raps to YouTube beats, which suited my voice better, but my main influences have shifted now. My singing isn’t great and I’d like to get to a level where I can sound good for recordings. Doesn’t need to be anything crazy.

Any tips?
