Madeleine or Madeline?
Guys, the IMPOSSIBLE HAPPENED. My boyfriend told me he liked a name! He usually hates everything! The name in question is Madeleine. To be fair, he once suggested it while he was drunk af, but somehow dismissed the idea when I told him about it once sober eyeroll
HOWEVER, for some unknown reason, he changed his mind! Yay! Now, even though I do like Madeleine, there are a few things about it that concern me. Firstly, I have a distant aunt named Madeleine. I barely see her and we are definitely not close enough for it to actually matter, but I do associate the name with her... Also, it might sound very french chic to you guys (not gonna lie, it does), but it's considered an old lady name here in Québec. Like... I don't know any Madeleine under the age of 55, lmao. I mean, I know vintage names are coming back (like, grandma names), but Madeleine is still very much in the mom category... Think Sharon or Karen. I still really do like the name, it's very soft sounding and reminds me of the dessert.
Here's the thing, though. My boyfriend recently started playing a game called Celeste, where the main character is named Madeline (the game is amazing, btw!) We both love the character, as she reminds us a lot of myself (grumpy with thick eyebrows, hahaha). The more I'm thinking about it, the more I actually really like Madeline. I told my boyfriend about this and he also loves it. It's a lot fresher than Madeleine, while being pretty uncommon here as well.
The only thing he said is that he would really like a french name, and Madeleine is the french version. While I agree, I feel like Madeline works very well in french, since ''line'' is a super common ending for french names in general.
Madeleine is pronounced Mad-len and Madeline is pronounced Mad-lin.
Thoughts?
