Spring Glen, Westville, East Rock, or Woodbridge / Orange for family with kids

Hi-- moving to CT for work at Yale; we have three kids.

We want to be close to work (the inevitable sicks calls to pick up kids, occasional work events in evening, etc.), and would love to have a neighborhood feel (walkable, bikeable, ideally things to do nearby; our own background is urban), but we are also very committed to having good schools for our kids (across all three levels, not just one). The online school ratings are all over the map, and the only area that seems to have highly rated schools across elementary, middle and high is Woodbridge and Orange.

Although it would stretch our budget to the max, East Rock would be ideal for our desired lifestyle, but online reviews of the high school are not good (Zillow gives it the lowest possible rating). Buying in any of these neighborhoods will price us out of private schools, so I'm curious to hear any thoughts from families with experience in these neighborhoods / school systems, and how you have juggled the pluses and minuses. Anything else you would recommend factoring into our impending decision?

We would like to avoid the 95, so I'm not listing places like Guilford, but if you feel strongly about other places, please share. Cheshire seems just a bit too far.

Thanks!
