Pellet Fire vs Heatpump
Interested to hear from those that have a pellet burner and if they love it? As well as those who have a pellet burner and hate it.
We currently have one heatpump in our lounge and have removed two wall gas heaters. So we’re shopping for either a floor heat pump or a pellet burner. We have solar panels, but on a cloudy day (located in Palmerston North) which is often during the winter, running the heat pump costs. I understand there will be added fuel costs for a pellet burner, but I do like the heat from a wood burner over a heatpump. Wood burner is also not a good option for our home due to layout and the risk of it only heating the dining/kitchen area. Not possible either to have a heat transfer due to layout again. The pellet burner fan interests me as I’m hoping that it would allow the heat to move through the house, so potentially being a whole home heating solution. The floor heatpump (plus lounge heatpump) I doubt would be enough to heat our whole home.
I also like that the pellet burners these days have smart functions to be able to control remotely, so being able to turn it on half hour before arriving home it a huge bonus. Our heatpump wifi control is glitchy.
Added info we have a two storey home that’s about 180m2. We have good insulation in the roof and underfloor. Character home that we have draft strip windows and doors. Single glazed windows. Home is a work in progress, as most character homes, but do feel it retains heat well. Just needs more heat.
