Gift Pokémon

Hello.

I'm considering on doing my first Pokémon nuzlocke, I'll be playing Y and I know you get given a Lapras and Lucario as well as a Charmander, Bulbasaur or Squirtle. I know you can use your starter, so do gift Pokémon count under starter rules or would they take up the one catch per route?
