Ontario Grocery Deals - Week of December 8 to 14

I’m back after an unexpected week off. Sorry about that. Frugal Fairy Baby is a Danger Boy and loves to climb, so we spent the better part of last weekend in the ER after a particularly bad fall and head injury. He’s fine and a total trooper, but it messed up my entire schedule and prevented me from getting my list out in time to be useful.

I want to say thank you to the people who took the time to ‘buy me a coffee’ last week through the link in my Instagram bio. You really made me feel appreciated. Sometimes it is hard to know if I am having any impact, but it really meant a lot to me. After a really stressful week, it’s awesome to know people are rooting for me.

This week there’s some good stock up prices and some decent deals, but the best ones seemed to be gone before I could get them written down to share. I’m sorry, there’s no free hummus and you won’t get to make 10$ buying period products, unless you already got those deals on your own. Don’t worry, there will always be more deals, though I suspect things will get a little sparse as we get closer to the holidays. Stores know that people are spending money regardless of the cost so they don’t need to have huge incentives to get customers into the stores. I’ve detailed the best of the remnants below. Have a lovely weekend and see you next week as long as the little man doesn’t dive off of anything again!

You can find deals, links to referrals with sign up incentives, coupons, tips, and recipes on my Instagram (www.instagram.com/frugalfairygodmother). I try to post new content everyday. If you’re interested, Flashfood has upped their sign-up referral bonus to 8$ when you use my code and spend 10$ on the app.

Best Deals of the Week

FREE Yogurt: Longos has Astro Original Balkan Yogurt on sale 5.99$/12. There are 50¢ tear pad coupons that are good on ANY size Astro products which will make them free if you use 12.

86¢ Avocado bags: No Frills has a buy 4, get 4000 PC Optimum points (4$ value) offer when you mix and match Avocados 5 count bags, Apples 4lb bags, Clementines 3lb bags, and Mushrooms 454g. Buy 4 bags of avocados and price match Food Basics price of 1.86$ to get them for 86¢ each. If 4 bags of 5 avocados sounds like too many for you to eat before they go bad, make up a big batch of guacamole. Guac freezes really well. I like to freeze guac until it sets in muffin tins, then remove them from the tin and store in a freezer bag. That way I have little individual servings of guacamole that I can take for lunches or quick snacks.

99¢ Hot Chocolate: Longos and Shopper’s Drugmart have Carnation hot chocolate tubs on sale for 4.99$. There is a 4$ off printable coupon that will make these 99¢.

1$ Dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts on Monday, December 12 only.’

There are a few PC Express order promo codes are available to try, valid until December 31:

1$ off Reeses Pilsbury Cookies – Code: REESE

1.50$ off Family Sized Cheerios – Code: CHEERIO22

2$ off Liberte Yogurt – Code: LIBERTETUB

1.50$ off Betty Crocker Muffin Tops – Code: MUFFIN22

Buy 1, get 1 free Annie’s Mac and Cheese – Code: MAC22

Buy 2, get 1 free Yop – Code: YOP22

I find that these codes don't always work in the PC Express app, but they tend to work on the web browser. So, try that if you are interested in this offer and it won't work in the app. If neither work, you can place the order and contact PC Express customer service and they should be able to adjust the order after pick up. I personally, could not get BAKING22 or MUFFIN22 to work.

There is a new Unilever promotion running until December 22, 2022. Spend $20 or more in one transaction on Dove, Dove Mens+Care, Axe, Tresemme, SheaMoisture, St. Ives and Vaseline products and upload your receipt to receive your $5 reward. Limit of 1 reward per receipt, but you can claim the reward multiple times.

Price match tips:

  • Most stores won't price match Rexall or Shoppers Drugmart.

  • Loblaws owned stores limit price matching to 4 items per UPC. Different flavours will have different UPCs. Some cashiers don't know their policy and will try to limit purchases to 4 items only.

  • Showing a virtual flyer like the Flipp app links included in this post is sufficient for price matching. You don't need to find a physical flyer.

  • Download the Flipp app and long press the price matches to "clip" them. You can find these clippings in the Lists section for easy reference at checkout.

  • Not all stores will price match every store. Each store will determine their own local competition. They should have this info posted somewhere or ask at the cash and they can tell you.

Frugal Tip of the Week:

Did you know that every week you need to log into your PC Optimum app to load your points offers for the week before you shop? Otherwise, you don’t get any points. New offers appear on Thursdays with the new flyers. You can save offers on Wednesday, and they will carry over to the next week (I.e. Thursday’s flyer). You can save the same offer multiple weeks in a row. I have been holding on to an Always offer for months waiting for the perfect sale and I’m using it tonight to get pads for under 1$ a box.
