Obligatory TIWWOE Story

2J’s and handling the workload just fine. J1 is a hot mess, and started looking for a new J. Landed J3, resigned at J1.

The same fucking day I am onboarding at J3, J2’s parent company announces a HUGE RIF. Like 2,500 people across multiple business units.

I love J2. The people, the work, the product, all super cool and very challenging. I survived the RIF (I’m in middle management) but they’re doing a reorg at the same time, and they’re dismantling the great culture the company has worked so hard to build.

J1 is out, J2 is in jeopardy, and J3 is a small company/team, very low stress. I’m not sweating it because I’m OE. This week could have been far worse than it was.

Side note: J2 parent company is massive; 27k employees globally. My BU is about 200 people. New reporting structure will mean that I report into a soulless corporate hierarchy. Execution of the RIF was seemingly random, with no leadership in our BU consulted.
